ABOUT ME

Dedication to Service

A Veteran of the Classroom

My experience in education spans 35 years. Since graduating from college with a degree in Elementary Education, I have only held jobs in education; as a college admission counselor, a preschool teacher, an elementary school teacher, and finally an elementary school principal. I attended public schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade and have been a proponent for the public school system my entire life.

An Advocate for Parents

My childhood was marked by my grandparents' struggle to raise nine children while grappling with a language barrier that kept them from fully participating in their education.  As a result, I have been a persistent advocate for those without a voice, encouraging parents to become involved with the schools and speak out for their children. Parent and community involvement is essential to the success of every child, and I will prioritize parent input and feedback regarding their student’s education. I will support all OUSD students and families to ensure that every student leaves OUSD college- or career-ready.

A Champion of Public Schools

We need neighborhood public schools. Open enrollment and school choice are great, and parents should be able to enroll at any school in the district, provided available room. However, many parents do not have the means to drive their children across town to access quality programs. Every school should provide quality education, serve as a community hub, and invite parents to play a welcome and active part in their child’s education.

A Fiscal Guardian

Students deserve every tax dollar possible to be spent in the classroom. Our community deserves leadership that will operate with transparency and fiscal responsibility, with no personal agendas or pet projects. Great public schools are the best future investment any community can make.

TOP PRIORITIES

As a Trustee, my priorities are:

  • Ensuring open and transparent communication with all stakeholders.

  • Improving facilities by wisely managing maintenance funds and fully developing an Asset Management Plan where the needs determine priority.

  • Fostering success of the innovative programs that make OUSD a destination district by providing proper supports for administrators and teachers.
